Recently, on the basis of a two-member committee report by the Land and Development Office (L&DO) of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs of the Modi-led central government, 123 properties of the Delhi Waqf Board, including mosques, dargahs and It has been decided to occupy the cemeteries.
In this case, it was submitted by the Delhi Waqf Board that these properties were clearly demarcated through four surveys conducted in the years 1970, 1974, 1976 and 1984 and later approved by the President of the Republic. properties and it was also said that the center has no power to dismiss the board from the properties.
Discussing the whole matter in detail, former Union Minister for Minority Affairs, Wqaf and Hajj, Dr. K Rehman Khan said that when the city of Delhi was being established, various areas of the city were acquired by the government.
K Rehman Khan said that during the tenure of Indira Gandhi, Burney Committee was formed and according to its report, 400 properties were acquired, including 123 properties, which have dargahs, mosques and graveyards, and they were designated as endowment properties. It was declared and given to the Waqf Board on a lease of 99 years.
He said that at that time these endowment properties could not be denotified, therefore these properties were leased to the endowment board for a small amount.
He said that during this time, the matter was taken to the court by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, which was pending for 20 years.
K Rehman Khan further said that when he took charge of the Ministry of Minority Affairs and Endowments at the Center in 2012, he worked to denotify the said 123 Waqf properties in 2014. had taken
K Rehman Khan said that the said 123 endowment properties were never gifted by the then central government, rather they were denotified, after which these properties ceased to be the property of the government, so the central government on these properties. Government capture is a wrong move.
K Rehman Khan said that there are shortcomings of the Delhi Waqf Board in this matter, that is why the law is now being resorted to for the protection of these properties.
