Bangalore: After the northern states of Gujarat and Uttarakhand, now there is talk of introducing a uniform civil code by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party in Karnataka.
In this regard, Jamaat-e-Islami Karnataka President Dr. Saad Bilgami said that the talk of implementing the Uniform Civil Code is election stunts. Dr. Saad said that the governments should not spread anxiety and disorder among the people through non-practical agenda in view of the elections.
Recall that Chief Minister Baswaraj Bomai had recently said that serious discussions are going on to implement UCC in Karnataka.
Baswaraj Bomai had said that “As far as the Bharatiya Janata Party is concerned, we feel that a uniform civil code is definitely desirable and the UCC has been a part of the BJP’s manifesto at the national level for a long time.” ‘
He had also said that he was gathering information about the progress made in various states with regard to the Uniform Civil Code, what the Constitution says about the UCC, and how to implement it in the state. Any decision will be taken after reviewing them.
Chief Minister Baswaraj Bomai had further said that various state governments (ruled by BJP) have already formed committees to implement it. We are also considering it and studying various aspects and then we will take a call.
It may be noted that Chief Minister Bommai was doing this during a program on the occasion of Constitution Day in Karnataka Vidhana Sodha when he said that his government is studying various aspects of the Uniform Civil Code.
